Zhurenlu 竹人錄

Zhurenlu 竹人錄 "On bamboo carvers" was written during the late Qing period 清 (1644-1911) by Jin Yuanyu 金元鈺 (fl. 1807) from Jiading 嘉定, Shanghai. He lived in the early 19th century.

The book consists of 2 juan, the first of which is a collection of biographies of craftsmen from Jiading who worked with bamboo as decorative material. It includes the biographies of 70 masters from around 1500 to 1807. The second fascicle presents quotations on bamboo from the field of literature, and also includes the author’s comments on the craft of bamboo workers.

A continuation of the book, Zhuren xulu 竹人續錄, was compiled by Chu Deyi 褚德彝 (1871-1942). It was published in 1930.
