Lanpeilu 攬轡錄

Lanpeilu 攬轡錄 "Controlling the Bridles" is a travel report written by Song-period 宋 (960-1279) scholar Fan Chengda 范成大 (1126-1193), who also wrote the books Canluanlu 驂鸞錄 and Wuchuanlu 吳船錄.

In 1170 Fan was made Grand Academician (daxueshi 大學士) and sent to accompany the mission of Kang Wei 康謂, military commissioner (jiedushi 節度使) of Chongxin 崇信, to the court of the Jin dynasty 金 (1115-1234) that ruled over northern China. In the sixth month he left Lin'an 臨安 (modern Hangzhou 杭州, Zhejiang), the capital of the Southern Song, crossed the (modern) provinces Jiangsu, Anhui, Henan, the "Southern Capital" 南京 Bianjing 汴京 (modern Kaifeng 開封, Henan) and Hebei and arrived in Yanjing 燕京 (or Zhongdu 中都 "Central Capital", modern Beijing).

In his travel report he describes ancient cities, tombs, monasteries, parks and gardens, famous buildings and other touristic spots (mingsheng guji 名勝古跡), on his way to the north, as well as the markets, quarters and buildings in the two Jin capitals, and also the customs and habits of the population of the north, and the climate of these regions.
