Huaguang meipu 華光梅譜

Huaguang meipu 華光梅譜 "The book of plums of Master Brightness of the Flower", also called Huameipu 畫梅譜, is a book on the painting of plum blossoms written during the Song period 宋 (960-1279). Authorship is traditionally attributed to the Buddhist monk Zhongren 仲仁 (late 11th cent.), style Huaguang Zhanglao 華光長老, from Guiji 會稽 (today's Shaoxing 紹興, Zhejiang). He resided at Mt. Huaguang close to Hengzhou 衡州 (Hengyang 衡陽, Hunan) and was befriended to the calligrapher Huang Tingjian 黃庭堅 (1045-1105).

The book of 1 juan length consists of oral formulas (Koujue 口訣), rules for "taking images" (Quxiang 取象), explanation of errors in painting (zhimi 指迷), a general discussion (Buzhi zonglun 補之總論), and answers to questions (Buzhi dawen 補之答問). The latter two might in fact have been written by Yang Wujiu 楊無咎 (1097-1171), courtesy name Buzhi 補之.

The text is included in the series Wangshi shuhua yuan 王氏書畫苑, Xu baichuan xuehai 續百川學海, Shuofu 說郛, Meishu congshu 美術叢書 and Hualun congkan 畫論叢刊. A modern edition was published in 1960 by the Renmin Meishu Press 人民美術出版社
