Chajupu 槎居譜

Chajupu 槎居譜 is a brush-notes-style book (biji) written during the Ming period by Huang He 黃鶴 (fl. 1559), courtesy name Xiuling 修翎, from Yixing 宜興, Jiangsu. Of his life, practically nothing much is known. Chaju 槎居 „Grubbing Lodge“ or „Raft Lodge“ was the name of his studio. His short book is a record of the construction of the buildings of his premises and their decorations and interior. The Yangtao Pavilion 仰陶亭 and the Lofty-Sky Lodge (Kongzhong Ge 空中閣) were built by craftsmen according to Huang's elaborate designs. The scenic spots are described one by one in words that are simple and sometimes comical, often in the style of jokes. The inscription of One-Point Garden (Yidian Yuan 一點園) is particularly vulgar. However, the method of construction of various scenic spots can provide reference materials for the history of architecture and landscaping.
